Biography

Derek Maines was born in Hollywood, Florida and raised in Ocala. Mr. Mr. Maines was a collegiate athlete at Pensacola Junior college and graduated from the Florida State University with a B.S. in Sport Management. He earned his J.D. from the Florida Coastal School of Law. During law school Derek worked for the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and the Duval Public Defender’s Office.

After graduating from law school in 2011, Mr. Maines joined the Jacksonville Legal Aid, providing legal counsel to the indigent. Since going into the practice area of criminal defense in 2013, Mr. Maines has successfully defended thousands of clients charged with DUI’s, drug offenses, white collar crimes, violent crimes, and others including first-degree felonies and capital offenses throughout north and central Florida.

Mr. Maines has extensive litigation and jury trial experience. He is a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Florida Bar, and the Jacksonville Bar Association.

Derek lives in Jacksonville and enjoys spending time with friends, family and his dog Huckleberry, playing music throughout Florida and Georgia, hunting and fishing, woodworking, and attending sporting events at FSU.
