Biography
Raised in the Boston area, Ann Marie received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst followed by a Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law. During law school, Ann Marie worked for the Duval County Public Defender’s Office and the Putnam County State Attorney’s Office.
Ann Marie began her legal career as a prosecutor in Miami-Dade County, where she served for seven years. During this time, Ann Marie was a felony division and traffic homicide prosecutor, where she completed training as a Drug Recognition Expert and traffic crash reconstructionist.
Ann Marie was the police legal advisor for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Alcohol Testing Program, for almost 7 years, where she was responsible for all DUI litigation, in Florida, on behalf of FDLE, revised and authored changes to Florida Implied Consent laws, and assisted the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor in providing training on prosecuting impaired drivers to hundreds of Florida prosecutors and police officers.
In 2017, Ann Marie returned to Jacksonville to be the police legal advisor for the Florida Highway Patrol in north Florida, representing more than 200 troopers in 18 counties. Ann Marie has taught thousands of police officers and prosecutors regarding the prosecution of criminal cases, case preparation, drug and alcohol-impaired driving cases, breath and blood alcohol testing, trial skills and procedure, statute and administrative rules, and report writing.
Ann Marie spent two years practicing criminal defense in the Jacksonville area. She then transitioned to the State Attorney’s office in the fourth judicial circuit. She was the prosecutor assigned to the treatment courts (veterans treatment court, mental health court, and drug court) for more than 3 years, in Duval, Nassau, and Clay counties. Ann Marie has extensive jury trial experience and appellate experience in both criminal and administrative courts. She is licensed to practice law in both Florida, Georgia and federal court (Middle District of Florida). She is a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association, Florida Women’s Lawyers Association, National College of DUI Defense, International Association of Chiefs of Police- Drug Recognition Expert section, and the International Association for Chemical Testing.
Over the past few years, Ann Marie has taken up running and combined her hobby with fundraising for veterans’ groups. Ann Marie completed a 61 miles fundraising challenge for Mission 22, a charity that provides support to veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and other mental health challenges. She participated in a fundraising challenge for Stop Soldier Suicide, a veteran’s support charity, to complete 50 miles in one month. She has run many 5ks including 5ks for the Wounder Warrior Project and Never Quit and tackled the Gate River Run’s 15k once. In her free time, Ann Marie likes to walk the beach searching for sharks’ teeth and tackle home improvement projects with her dog Mija always by her side.
